Wedding Cruise Q & A
Do you do weddings?
Yes! We love weddings. Whether it’s your ceremony, reception or both, we’d be happy to host your special day!
How many people can you accommodate?
While we are certified to carry a maximum of 200 people including all passengers, crew and service staff, this is not a comfortable number for a wedding cruise.
We can provide:
- Sitting for 76 on our main deck
- Sitting for 110 over two decks
- Cocktail style set up for up to 150
Can we get married on board?
Yes you can; however, contrary to popular opinion, our Captain cannot marry you. You need a proper wedding officiant.
Where do we get married on board?
Usually, we set up the ceremony on the upper deck of our ship.
How long is the cruise?
Our wedding cruise packages include a 3-hour cruise, but you’re welcome to purchase additional time — whether out on the bay or while docked. We’re happy to work with you to accommodate your itinerary and help create a seamless event experience.
What kind of food is available?
We have a variety of sit-down and cocktail-style menus; however, our designated catering service can also offer specialized menu.
What about people with special dietary needs?
Just let us know what they are ahead of time, and we’ll do our best to accommodate or prepare something special.
Can we bring our own catering?
We allow outside catering, however, there are rules and extra costs associated. Your caterer must meet with us to discuss venue layout, equipment and general requirements. Your caterer must be insured, and we must be added as an additional insured on their insurance policy. They must provide everything required for food service. Ask us for more details.
If we have our own caterer, can they bring the alcohol?
No. We are a liquor licensed establishment and all alcohol, by law, must come through our liquor license. In addition, we do not allow outside caterers to bring non alcoholic beverages. All beverages must be provided by Georgian Spirit.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
No. We are a liquor licensed establishment and all alcohol, by law, must come through our liquor license.
Can I decorate?
Absolutely! We can certainly assist in providing our basic décor offerings and set up, however many guests chose to bring in their own themed decor or hire a designated decorating service. Either way, we will work with you to accommodate your needs. Note, we can provide time directly prior to your event for outside decorators. If they require additional time, and the ship is available, it is available to book for a fee. No more than 5 people will be permitted to come on board to decorate.
What decorations are there?
The ship comes with white, black or navy tablecloths and napkins. Ask us about our current inventory of additional linens and miscellaneous decor.
What if it rains?
We cruise rain or shine. There is plenty of indoor space on our ship where your guests can stay dry, and the views are just as spectacular from our large dining room windows.
Are you wheelchair accessible?
We can certainly get a wheelchair on board, with our specially made gangways, and a person in a wheelchair can access all food and beverage service as well as our aft deck. Ask us about our on board washrooms. They will not have access to the upper deck. If you have any guests with other disabilities, please let us know. We’d like to ensure they have a great, safe experience!
How safe is it on the ship?
We are certified annually by Transport Canada Ship Safety. We carry over 200 adult life jackets, 20 children’s life jackets, two 75-man life rafts, four (4) life rings, nine (9) fire extinguishers, a fire suppression system, flares, the proper horns, two VHF radios, etc. All crew members are safety trained. At any time, if you or your passengers have any questions, please feel free to ask a crew member.
Can we have a tasting of the food?
Yes, we offer a complimentary tasting for two at our caterer’s restaurant. If you require more than two people attend, additional fees will apply. Tastings are reserved for clients who have already booked and paid their deposit.
How does payment work?
To book a wedding cruise and hold a date aboard the Georgian Spirit, we require a $1000.00 deposit, and a signed contract. All monies are due before your event. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, EFT and cash for payment. Deposits are non-refundable.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Debit and cash.
After the ship has left the dock, what if someone needs to get on or off?
Ask us about water taxi options. Sometimes the wedding officiant or other vendor may wish to leave after their services are provided. If you have a large number of people who would like to leave the ship at a certain time and you still want to cruise afterwards, we can always make a “pitstop” at our regular dock. We would need to know this ahead of time.
How does the music work?
If you bring an ipod/ipad etc with a playlist, we can play your music over the on board sound system. We have a microphone that may be used for your ceremony and/or for your speeches during the reception. Want to bring your own DJ? We do allow this… however, any outside sound equipment required must be approved by Georgian Spirit Cruises.
Are children allowed on board?
The age restriction for private charters is at the discretion of the charterer. Our liquor license does not restrict minors from being on board. Please note that there is no specific lifesaving apparatus, i.e. life jackets, available for infants.
Where does the boat go?
We cruise in and out of Midland Harbour and through the adjacent Georgian Bay Islands. The final route depends on the captain as it is his role to provide a safe and comfortable trip.
Do people get seasick?
The ship is very stable. Unless a person is sensitive to motion (e.g. gets car sick) they should not have any problems. We cannot give out Gravol type medications, so if you think someone is sensitive, it is up to them whether they wish to take a Gravol before boarding or not.
Is there a dress code?
We would hope that people will dress in accordance with your desires or theme, however, a few guidelines: bring a light jacket or sweater …It can get cool at night. While high heels are allowed, the ship is moving, and high heels, stairs and movement don’t always work together … comfortable and practical is better.
